Battery & Charging System Diagnostics
Stuck with a dead battery or no crank? Here’s what might be wrong:
-
Clicking noise but engine won’t turn over
-
Dim headlights or dashboard lights
-
Battery warning light on dash
-
Car cranks slowly or intermittently
-
Complete no-start condition
If you’re stranded in Mineral Wells or on I-20, our same-day roadside diagnostics will get you moving again.

Dead Battery

Often caused by leaving lights or accessories on, or a battery past its 3–5 year life span.
Common Roadside Battery Issues
Faulty Alternator

Alternator not charging the battery leads to gradual voltage drop. Typical signs: radio keeps playing after engine off, flickering lights.
Bad Starter

Starter motor or solenoid failure sounds like rapid clicking or a single loud click when you turn the key.
Battery & Charging FAQ
How can I tell if the battery, alternator, or starter is bad?
-
Battery: Dim lights, slow crank, voltage below 12.4V at rest.
-
Alternator: Voltage below 13.5V when running, battery light on dash.
-
Starter: Rapid clicking, single click, or no noise with good battery voltage.
What does 'battery charging system checked' mean?
We hook up a digital tester to measure voltage and amperage while the engine runs, ensuring the alternator is charging at the correct rate and the battery holds the charge.
Can I jump-start a battery if the starter is bad?
No. A jump start only provides battery power. If the starter motor or solenoid is faulty, the engine still won’t crank even with a fresh battery.
What would cause the engine not to crank over?
A few things can stop cranking: a dead battery, corroded cable connections, a failed starter, or a blown fuse in the starting circuit. We methodically test each component to pinpoint the issue.
