Car Overheating?

The water pump is the engine’s heart; the thermostat is its valve. When either sticks or leaks, temps soar. We install factory-quality parts and new gaskets—no shortcuts.

Radiator & Cooling System Repair in Mineral Wells, TX

Our marketing girl Kasi has a little tip for you. When I was first driving my first car started overheating on I‑20 gridlock in 102 °F heat. I called my dad, not knowing what to do and he said the craziest thing.

Crank the heater full blast. I did what I was told and cranked it. It started cooling down the engine.

Those cabin vents doubled as a mini‑radiator and bled just enough heat to limp to a repair shop.

I will never forget that EXTREMELY hot lesson, and it’s why we take cooling‑system health seriously today.

Old coolant loses rust protection. We flush the gunk, add 50/50 premix, dye-test for hidden leaks, and check every hose and cap.

Cooling System FAQ

Why does my car overheat only in traffic?

Your radiator fan may not be kicking on. At highway speed, wind cools the radiator. In stop-and-go, an electric fan (or clutch fan) must pull that air. A blown fuse, bad sensor, or worn fan clutch lets heat build quickly.

Is it okay to drive a short distance while overheating?

Driving even a short distance with an overheating engine can cause significant damage, such as warped cylinder heads. It's best to pull over immediately, turn off the engine, and seek assistance.

What are the signs of a bad water pump?

Indicators of a failing water pump include:

  • Coolant leaks at the front of the engine

  • Overheating, especially at low speeds

  • Squealing or whining noises that increase with RPM

These symptoms suggest issues like a leaking gasket or worn bearings.

How often should I flush coolant?

Every 5 years or 100,000 miles is the rule of thumb, but Texas heat shortens coolant life. We recommend testing at 3 years—if it’s rusty or the freeze-point is off, flush it.

Does turning on my heater really cool the engine?

Yes. The heater core is a tiny radiator. Full-hot heater setting transfers engine heat into cabin air, dropping coolant temperature enough to get you off the road.
